The Smart Buyer’s Guide to Kitchen Sinks

Choosing a kitchen sink looks simple until you stand in front of a hundred of them. Get five decisions right and the rest falls into place. Here is how we recommend thinking about it.

1. Start with the bowl layout

How you cook decides your bowls, not the other way round.

  • Single large bowl — the most flexible choice. Big pots, baking trays and pressure cookers all fit. Ideal for Indian kitchens.
  • Double bowl — separate washing and rinsing/soaking. Great if two people share the kitchen.

2. Get the size right

Two numbers matter: the overall size (the outer cut needed in your countertop) and the bowl size (the usable space inside). Always check both — every GALLEY product lists them in inches and millimetres. Measure your cabinet width first; your sink’s overall width should sit comfortably inside it.

3. Choose the material

  • 304 stainless steel — food-grade, corrosion-resistant and hard-wearing. The safest all-round choice.
  • Quartz — a warmer, matte, stone-like look in designer shades; quiet and scratch-friendly.

Not sure about steel grades? Read 304 vs 202 Stainless Steel.

4. Matt or glossy?

A matt finish hides water spots and small scratches and suits modern kitchens. A glossy finish is bright and easy to wipe. Both are durable — it is a style choice.

5. How it mounts

Top-mount (drop-in) suits almost any countertop and is the easiest to fit. Undermount and flush-fit give a seamless look on stone or quartz tops. See our Installation Guidance.

Quick checklist: bowl layout → overall & bowl size → material → finish → mounting. Decide in that order and you cannot go far wrong.

Every genuine GALLEY sink carries a unique QR code so you can register your warranty the moment it is installed. That is your proof of authenticity for life.
